The Coalition for Women’s Brain Health is pleased to spotlight the recent National Institute on Aging (NIA) Workshop on Sex Differences Impacting Human Health Across the Lifespan. This workshop brought together leading experts from across the scientific community to examine how sex-specific biological factors shape health outcomes from early development through aging.
We are proud to recognize CWBH member Emily Jacobs, Ph.D. for her important contribution to the program. Dr. Jacobs presented at on: “Sex-specific factors that influence the central nervous system.”
Her research continues to advance understanding of how hormonal, structural, and molecular differences shape the female brain, with implications for cognitive health, aging, and neurological disease risk. This work aligns closely with the Coalition’s mission to accelerate research that reflects the unique needs of women across the lifespan.
Why This Workshop Matters
The discussions throughout the workshop underscored several key points:
Sex differences play a fundamental role in neurological development, function, and disease vulnerability.
Women remain underrepresented in biomedical and neuroscience research, contributing to gaps in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
Addressing these disparities requires scientific frameworks that incorporate sex as a critical biological variable, both in research design and clinical application.
The insights shared during this workshop support the Coalition’s ongoing efforts to promote equitable, evidence-based approaches to women’s brain health.
